Family Room

Hello there and welcome back!

When we last left off Jeffery gave the upstairs a face lift, and all that's left up there is the boys' bathroom. Today we're going to step into the house's addition.

I'd like to briefly touch on a home improvement project we hired out when we first moved into this new to us house. A crawl space encapsulation. I'm not going to share pictures of that because I like to try to keep this blog appropriate for all audiences. Our home inspection came back saying that there was really really really bad mold growing under the crawl space and the worst was under the addition. Anyway that got done before we did anything downstairs because, well, we didn't want to live breathing in mold every day, but also the humidity level needed to be under control before we put nice hardwood flooring in.

Anyway, without further ado, here's what you came to see.

First of all, we didn't want the tacky fireplace. There's a real one out in the living room and this one was really cheap looking. (also we wanted a tv there)

Once that was out of the way Jeffery installed a mini split. This addition is on one side of the house and the furnace/ac unit is on the other side, the trunk sending air down to this room was just too long and no air was actually being pushed into this room. Jeffery climbed through the crawl space and removed the duct work to this room. We were hoping that would help with the upstairs climate control. The ugly fans came down and Jeffery got to work painting the ceiling. We're not sure why, but every room in this house was blue from top to bottom. What a change the white makes. It almost makes me like the blue walls.

Also is anyone surprised we went with beige? This color is Skinny Latte from Valspar. Jeffery hung one of the new fixtures so he'd have some light to work with and started tearing up the floor. The laminate had to come up, as well as one layer of sub-floor.

Ceiling painted and floor ready for new hardwood. But first, paint.

I'm glad I'm not the one who puts their body on the line for beige.

Okay I lied the whole floor wasn't done. We moved the desks out of the way and then he finished prying up the rest of the flooring.

Sadly, with only about one wall left to go, Jeffery ran out of paint. We didn't expect to need so much paint considering the windows and doors in this room, but the blue paint just sucked it up like a sponge.

We tried quite a few local shops for hardwood and either couldn't find what we wanted, or had pretty bad customer service, so we ended up ordering our flooring online. Gotta say, we highly recommend Build Direct. (not sponsored)  They have free samples, their phone customer service was great, and shipping was very fast.

Calvin oversaw the project.

Here's Jeffery admiring his handy work. He replaced all the switched and outlets to white ones. I'm pretty sure in this picture he had only painted half the trim. The window trim was still in good shape so we bought a color that was a close match to paint the rest of it.

Time for the glamour shots.

I'm not completely done unpacking everything, but, almost. :)

Of course here's a look at the before.

Thanks for stopping by!
