Upstairs

The first thing inside we decided to tackle was the upstairs. (And when I say we, I mean he. Jeffery did all the work up here.) It needed carpet pretty badly so we didn't move anything up there, and left it easier to work in. Calvin had been sleeping in the family room for the time being.

To start out Jeffery ripped out all the old carpet in Calvin's room. The ceiling comes down really low in the room and it was sharp to the touch. Typically when they do ceiling they sand down a little bit to keep it from being pokey, but that wasn't done here. So we purchased something that should have been bought a long time ago.

 A drywall sander.

He sanded the ceiling down to a neat marble/spider web texture and then painted it.

We replaced the fixture in Henry's room, and you can see the difference in ceiling paints here. Most of the ceilings in the house are tinted blue.

Home Depot is doing our carpet install and will handle removal and haul away as well, but Jeffery pulled the carpet up on his own so he could screw down the floorboards. Some of them were squeaking pretty badly. He left the stair carpeting for them to take care of.

At this point all the trim upstairs was painted, and we picked a trim color that would go with all the paint choices.

This is a picture of the guest room with no carpet, and you can just barely see the ceiling is painted.

I asked Calvin ten times what color he wanted for his room and he chose green.

Calvin's room is all primed and ready to go.

Calvin's room didn't have any light fixtures, but it did have electrical run to two separate boxes, so we got a set close to the fixture we put up in Henry's room.

I wanted to do Henry's nursery as a woodland theme so I went with cream and a dark brown statement wall. Together the rooms look like a tree. Henry is the trunk and Calvin is the leaves.

We also painted the hallway and stairwell.

I don't have any action shots of the guest room because we were both just going to town on getting it finished.

Here's a swatch of our carpet choice. Carpet came the next day.

It was installed for free via Home Depot. They did a fantastic job.

A couple of the doors got fresh coats of paint and they all had their gold hardware swapped out for oil brushed bronze. (The blue walls kind of clash with the yellow, but those will change eventually)

All the old almond colored outlets and switches got replaced with white. (The switches are smart switches but that's a post for another day.)

Calvin's very happy with his new room. "My new woom!"

A couple action shots of the carpet.

Now all that's left to do upstairs is the bathroom.

Until next time!
Thanks for stopping by!

  1. It's nice to be able to do this work on the house you are going to live in rather than the house you are going to sell.
