Shower Feng Shui

Welcome back! Sometimes blog post titles make sense, sometimes they're inside jokes.
The shower is done! Here's a look at the process.

Firstly, Jeffery painted a layer of RedGard on the wall. It's a thick "paint" that turns into a waterproof plastic layer on the wall after you roll it on.

And Jeffery's back in the tub to do some measuring.

Then he cut the tiles, mixed the mortar, and started tiling away. I handed him tiles and spacers, he laid them.

It took a few days because we were being lazy, and also Jeffery did the math wrong and we needed 6 more tiles, but Lowe's was closed.

His son makes that same face when he's concentrating.

Calvin wasn't happy that he couldn't be in the way.

Bullnose around the window.

Tiling done and waiting to cure so we can grout.

Usually we get our stuff from Lowe's but they didn't have the grout color we wanted so we got this at Home Depot. This was the messiest grout we've ever worked with. It got all over the place, we just started smearing it into the cracks with our hands. It was terrible. We do not recommend the brand "Simple Grout" (at least not the premixed).

Haze all sponged off.

We waited for it to cure and then Jeffery put the fixtures in while I put Calvin to bed. This is probably the last time you'll see Jeffery standing in a tub. Probably.

He left the blue liner on the outside of the tub to protect it from accidental mud and paint splatters, because that's coming up next.

This drain is awesome. Push it down to stop it and let the tub fill, and with a simple tap on the open side, it pops up and the tub drains.

Our shower head has a detachable hand held hose that I can use while Jeffery uses the over head portion. Most of our showers happen together and we're sick of being cold while the other takes their sweet precious time hogging the hot water and laughing at our goosebump covered spouse.
He mounted it extra high so that he could finally have a shower standing straight up.

Then we hung the curtain rod and shower curtain. We decided to go with a curved rod to make the shower seem bigger. We also got new hooks and a new liner, but the shower curtain is one I bought last year (it's still in good shape).

Very modern and relaxing. Being able to shower together again was really nice, even if Jeffery had to get out and hold Calvin while I finished washing my hair.

Also, because there was no room in the studs to add a shelf, we purchased a shower caddy. I think it looks pretty nice.

So peaceful.

We'll see you next time.
Thanks for stopping by!
