Bye Bye Blue Bathtub

Hi there. Welcome back!

I usually break up big projects into smaller posts of picture heavy content, and this project is no different. So sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Calvin and I went to Florida for a few days to spend time with Jeffery's mom, so Jeffery decided he would take it upon himself to upgrade the bathroom. I delegated him to the task of taking photos until my return. (Yes, that's right, we ditched Jeffery to go see his mother.)

Before Calvin and I left we took a trip to Lowe's.

Jeffery standing in tubs is going to be a recurring theme.

Until further notice, the pictures were taken by Jeffery. Most of the pictures are going to be vertical because you can't really shoot horizontal in such a small room with a phone camera.

Removal of the bathroom mirrors, and the beginning of a complete strip of this room, right down to bare bones.

You won't appreciate just how bad this tub is, I mean, you see that it's blue, and if you looked closer you'd see that the faucet has 20ish years of lime build up hanging out. What you won't notice, unless you stand in the tub, is that the whole bottom is shaped like a V instead of a U, so when you shower, your feet are at an odd angle.

Trim around the window removed, the wood was rotting and moldy. Very gross.

Medicine cabinet removed.

Tiles up and you can see the water damage and mold on the subfloor.

Behind the bath surround was nasty as well.

Down to the insulation.

Window out. Unfortunately no one in town had windows that were exactly the same size, so Jeffery changed the hole dimensions.

Jeffery was apparently too traumatized by the wall removal to get any pictures. He still talks about how bad it was. He says that it was all so stuck together that he was yanking full sheets of drywall covered in tiles off the studs, instead of how drywall normally breaks up into easy to manage pieces.

Fan removal and replacement. He also painted the ceiling. I got a flattering SnapChat from him.

Somehow he got the steel tub down the stairs on his own.

More gross.

You can see there was damage to both layers of floor.

Peeking down into the laundry room, he ran wiring down for ceiling lights in the laundry room while the floor was open.

All new copper plumbing was done from the bathroom down through the laundry room.

He was really proud that he did all this work and only ended up having one small leak when he turned the water on.

This is about where I came home, and this is what I found. (I took over picture taking.)

He had the tub in and plumbed when I got home so I helped him lay the new flooring and grout.

My mom was supposed to be flying in the day after I got home so we put the floor down early so we'd have a functioning toilet, which meant covering the floor up with paper to protect it from the rest of the work.

Then Jeffery got to work plumbing the toilet.

Here we're installing board for the tile to go on and the drywall for the wall the toilet will be against.

I got to inaugurate the toilet and the tub. Jeffery told me I wasn't allowed to take the protector off though because he'd need to stand in the tub some more. He put an elbow on the end of the copper so the blast of water would go downwards instead of straight towards the other side of the tub.

The view wasn't great, but the tub is awesome. It's a U shape like any reasonable tub should be, it has arm rests, and a nice slanted back. Perfect for soaking. (Too bad I was out of bath bombs.)

Drywall installed.

This picture is finally showing you the new ceiling fan. I'm pretty sad, because it seems that I don't have a picture of the old fan. It was just, so outdated. You know, like wood and gold, and 70s.

New switch. The top two do lights separately, and the bottom switch is the fan. Now we can get rid of the giant work lights and use the ceiling light.

New outlets for beside the vanity.

And our current door solution.

That's it for now.
Thanks for stopping by!
